PostgreSQL Database Server - Version 8.4.16 PostgreSQL is one of the world's most powerful open source relatinal database systems available today. Please notice! It is only possible to update from ealier package versions of PostgreSQL starting with version 1.2.X. Otherwise the only possible way to update your system is the following: 1. Backup the data from the databases (using pg_dump or pgAdmin etc.). 2. Uninstall the old database package from the server. 3. Install the current version of PostgreSQL. 4. Create the databases and users before restoration. 5. Restore the data to the created databases using pg_restore or pgAdmin etc.
